you know, The Beatles, they had it all figured out, okay?

“I Want to Hold Your Hand.” The first single. It’s effing brilliant, right? That’s wha everybody wants, Nicky.

They don’t want a twenty-four-hour hump sesh, they don’t want to be married to you for a hundred years. They just want to hold your hand.” | Thom, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist (2008)

May 16th, 2012: Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist (2008)
For some reason, I really enjoy Michael Cera movies. I would never consider him one of my favorite actors, but it seems like he enjoys making movies that are right up my alley. Scott Pilgrim is one of my favorite movies ever, and another favorite of mine would be this here, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist. Appropriately filled with great music, Nick and Norah is a movie I can easily relate to, despite almost no similarities between the film and my life. It’s just a fun teenage tale that manages to both captures the viewers attention and have some fun being a little dirty. The fact that this movie manages to be a little dirty and just the right amount of wrong is very important, because it is this balance that makes it an enjoyable movie no matter what kind of mood I’m in.
Best Part: This was Kat Dennings biggest role to date when it came out, and she really shows her star potential here. While her appearances in Charlie Bartlett and The 40 Year Old Virgin were significant, she receives top billing and run with it here, making her character easy to fall in love with and completely memorable. She is in many ways a more realistic Juno, as her issues of self-doubt and witty sarcasm make her endlessly enjoyable. I’m so glad that she has managed to make a career for herself.
Worst Part: It’s weird to think of this movie having a worst part, but I suppose it would be Tris (Alexis Dziena). Tris is just an obnoxious character who fills her role perfectly, but for the life of me I don’t see why Nick (Cera) ever dated her. I understand that she made him feel special and she’s hot (Ish), but Tris is such an unlikable manipulative bitch that I wish somebody had just punched her so she’d shut up.
Side Note: The music from this movie is fantastic. I mentioned it before, but the tracks for the soundtrack not only match the film well, but they always manage to have just enough of a presence so they never distract from a scene. This is one soundtrack that I couldn’t imagine the film without and I am so glad to own it. Look into it, you won’t regret it.
Overall: 8.5 out of 10. If only the movie never ended…
